It All Started in East Tampa

In 1936, Tampa was facing some of its toughest years. The Great Depression had closed many of Ybor City’s cigar factories, the port was struggling, and families across East Tampa were finding it hard to make ends meet. That’s when Benjamin “Ben” Rutkin decided no hardworking driver should be stranded just because they couldn’t afford dealership prices.

Right here on Broadway Avenue, Ben opened Tampa Tire Co. with one simple promise:

Five Generations of Keeping Tampa Rolling

  • Ben Rutkin Jr. grew the business during Tampa’s post-war trucking boom, adding services for growing fleets and creating an easy-in/easy-out lot for big rigs.
  • Ben Rutkin III brought same-day tire service, modern equipment, and more in-stock tire options for faster turnaround.
